How to Hang Curtains

Home décor can sometimes look incomplete without adding curtains that complement the interior design style you have chosen. Let’s suppose that you’ve zeroed down on curtain ideas and even bought curtain rods. You are excited to watch your room finally come together, but first you need to know how to hang curtains!

If you’ve just moved into a new home and are hanging curtains for the first time, the whole task can be quite daunting. To make the experience easier, we have a few vital expert tips.

Before Curtain Installation

You will need a ladder and equipment to fit the curtain rail or pole in the right place. Ensure that the rod is at least four inches bigger than the window so that you can cover the entire area with curtains effectively. Each of your windows would usually have two curtains so to buy the right length, measure the length of the rod first and buy curtains that are slightly longer than half the length of the rod. For instance, if the rod is 100cm, each curtain should be 52cm, so that they meet comfortably in the middle.

Don’t forget its handy to have an extra person to hold the curtain and pass equipment to you.

Curtain Installation Tips

When you insert the hooks to the curtain tape, ensure that you use one hook for every four or five holes. The curtain tape might have different levels in it for hook insertion. Decide on the curtain height and reach at the bottom, and choose a level accordingly.

As you install the frame or pole, ensure that you do not chip the wall in the process.

Check if the curtains and blinds move well as you pull the cords. If the curtains are pulling up unevenly, spread them out and adjust by pulling cords until they gather together evenly.

Child-Proofing Your Curtains

The loops that hang loose pose a strangulation risk for kids. To avoid this, use a curtain loop tensioning device, usually available from your local hardware shop.

Curtain Wrinkles Shouldn’t Bother You

If you find out that the ready made curtains you bought are wrinkled, don’t worry. The weight of the curtain will eventually take away the wrinkles. You may also be able to lightly iron the curtains, but you will first have to read the instructions as not all curtain fabric is suitable for being ironed.

Curtains can be a fantastic finishing touch for your home but its important they are installed safely.
